A Manitoba ID card is a voluntary, government-issued, secure photo identification. You can use it to prove your identity, age, and Manitoba residency.

The card also provides identification for Manitobans who do not have a driving license, which means there is no need to apply for one. Please note that the Manitoba ID card is accepted in Canada but is not accepted for entry into the United States.

The front of the Manitoba ID card:

  • Full name
  • Address
  • Date of birth (if you are under 18 years of age, your date of birth will also include a statement under “18 years of age”)
  • Gender 
  • Eye color 
  • Height 
  • Photo 
  • Signature
  • The phrase “Identification Card” and the Manitoba logo indicate that the card is an ID card issued by the Province of Manitoba
  • The date the card was issued and the expiration date.

Who is eligible for a Manitoba ID card?

You can apply for a Manitoba ID card if you meet the following criteria.

  • You are a resident of Manitoba.
  • You have the right to stay in Canada.
  • You do not have a driving license.
  • If you are under 18, your parents must co-sign your application.

If you have a Manitoba driving license: 

  • You can also go to any Autopac agent or MPI Service Centre to surrender your license and have a replacement Manitoba ID card for a fee of $10.
  • If you are above 65 years of age, you can surrender your license for free to get your Manitoba ID card.

To apply for a Manitoba ID card, you will need the following original documents (no photocopies):

  • Date of Birth

  • Manitoba residence and permanent address (please note that two supporting documents are required and must be dated within 90 days of the application date)

How long does it take to get an ID card?

If your application is approved, your Manitoba ID card will be mailed to you within 10 business days. If you do not receive it within 10 business days, please report it to an Autopac agent or MPI. Your Manitoba ID card may have been lost in the mailing process. If this is the case, MPI will report it to the police department as a way to protect your privacy.

How much does it cost to get an identification card?

It costs a total of $20 to apply for a Manitoba ID card, including the cost of a photo. The fee can be waived under certain circumstances.

The card is valid for up to five years, and to renew it, the fee is $20. If it is lost, destroyed or damaged, a valid card can be replaced for $10.
